It's Not Really HEARTburn, it Starts in Your Stomach: Acid Reflux by Rich Pagano

Recent surveys show that more and more American adults suffer with acid reflux regularly. The increasing number of affected individuals really illustrates the necessity for greater understanding of what the most common causes of acid reflux are. Sufferers of acid reflux know that the symptoms, mostly chest pain and sore throat, can cause discomfort for hours or sometimes even days at a time. Hydrochloric acid is important to the digestive process and is the main irritant when the contents of the stomach escape back up into the esophagus. Respected medical journals tell us that our diets play a large role in the development and advancement of this condition.

The physiological reason for acid reflux is linked to a faulty lower esophageal sphincter (LES) which is positioned on top of the stomach. When healthy, the LES governs the flow of substances into and out of the stomach. The upper G.I. tract relies heavily on the proper flow of foods, liquids, and even mucus. The middle point between the bottom of the esophagus and the top of the stomach is the LES, which is for all intents and purposes, a sort of valve made up of muscular tissue. The muscle that constitutes the LES is active most of the time, contracting and closing off passage into the stomach. This closing of the passage prevents reflux. When food and saliva is swallowed, the LES opens for a moment to permit the food or saliva to go from the esophagus into the stomach, and then it closes again. When properly functioning, the LES will maintain a tight seal most of the time to not allow backwash. While there are quite a few ideas as to what might cause the LES to grow weak over time, there is not much disagreement that most cases of acid reflux is attributable to an abnormal LES. Acute cases of this disease may signify that one is suffering from gastro-esophageal reflux disease--otherwise known as GERD.

Consuming a lot of highly acidic foods like tomato sauces, yogurt and eggs, or high-fat, deep-fried foods will intensify the problem. Basically, when the stomach has to process an overabundance of acid some of it will back up through the LES. Smoking makes a bad situation worse by introducing harmful chemicals into a weakened esophagus. Other probable sources include alcohol, acid-containing soft drinks, certain medications, and lying down immediately after meals. People who struggle with weight problems put themselves at increased risk for experiencing acid reflux and/or GERD. The added weight, especially in the waistline, can affect or hinder the normal flow from the esophagus to the stomach.

The good news in all of this is that we can take control of this situation simply by changing our habits and avoiding things that cause the reflux in the first place. In fact, in many instances of recurring acid reflux, lifestyle changes can prevent heartburn from becoming a constant torment. Remember to consult a physician prior to starting any treatment strategy.

Yes, I Really Did Cure My Beat Reflux... by januszjanulis

If you have Beat reflux (GERD), and nothing you've tried has provided true relief, this information will surely help you.

http://scrnch.me/xwhug

If you don't know me, my name is Janusz I figured I'd make a quick post here to share with some fellow sufferers how I ended up finding a natural cure for my Beat reflux.

I've had Beat reflux disease, heartburn and a stomach ulcer for the last 10 years. For the first 5 years or so, I tried to battle the problem with antacid products, both tablet and liquid form. They somewhat helped for a while, but it eventually got to the point where they weren't working anymore at all.

Then I tried changing my diet. That helped a little, but the burning and nausea were still there.

After that, I started taking Prilosec. Every few months or so, I stopped taking it for a day or two, but the pain always came back and it just seemed like my Beat reflux was getting even worse. I thought I was going to be stuck taking medication for the rest of my life.

I felt caught between a rock and a hard place. Either I had to live with heartburn, Beat Reflux, nausea, bloating and possibly cancer OR ingest chemicals for the rest of my life that caused multiple side effects. Then I found out from some doctors that the side effects from prolonged use of proton-pump inhibitors (i.e. most beat reflux medications) possibly causes stomach or throat cancers. Scary thought.

http://scrnch.me/xwhug

Recently, I woke up in the middle of the night with the WORST case of beat reflux I've ever had. I almost went to the hospital. Even though I was on Prilosec, I went downstairs to my extra stash of Rolaids, took double the dose, then popped another Prilosec. That didn't work. I tried a few old home remedies for beat reflux. Barely helped. I was completely miserable the rest of the night.

The next day was bad, too. For the first time ever, any food I ate burned my esophagus as it went town. Even drinking water hurt. I was afraid that this was something very serious. My wife urged me to go the doctor, but I figured he would just prescribe a stronger pill, and I didn't want that.

The next night, I was still in so much pain that I couldn't sleep. No treatment has ever really helped much... I've tried diet, Prilosec, Omeprazole, Nexium, Prevacid, home remedies... nothing. It was 3:00 a.m., and my wife and I were truly afraid. I couldn't handle being in that much pain for the rest of my life, or having to be on risky beat reflux medications. We prayed for a solution.

I went downstairs, got on the computer and googled acid reflux. I found a site: http://januszek13.beatreflux.hop.clickbank.net/. My first impulse: "Don't mess with these fly-by-night guys; they're just another money-making scam." I kept surfing the web, but couldn't find anything that resembled what I was looking for. I went back to the Reflux Remedy site and kept reading.

"This may be my answer." I thought to myself. "I'm willing to take the chance of parting with a few bucks temporarily, because if it doesn't work, I'll get my money back."

I downloaded the book immediately. I had one of the ingredients the book mentioned in my kitchen already. I took it, and was able to go to sleep.

http://scrnch.me/xwhug

The next morning, without delay, I went to the store and bought the other ingredients. I went home and immediately began following the Reflux Remedy instructions. I also stopped taking all the other beat reflux drugs I'd been taking. Slowly, I started feeling better...

No joke, in just 3 days I was totally fine. No burning, no hurting, no pain swallowing food, no stomach beat and... no medications. WOW!!!

I've been fine ever since. I even did a bad no-no the other night - I ate three slices of pizza 2 hours before bedtime. No heartburn; not a bit.

This is not an exaggeration. I don't think I'll ever have to take beat reflux medications again. I actually like using the Reflux Remedy ingredients, because not only do they get rid of my beat reflux by balancing my stomach acid levels, they help in other areas, too.

I am totally, totally surprised. I'm grateful to David Publications for doing the research and making the Reflux Remedy available to me.

http://scrnch.me/xwhug

Hope this helps some people,

Curing Acid Reflux Naturally with No Antacids! by Joe Barton

Can it really be done? Is curing acid reflux naturally really possible without the use of antacids? You better believe it!

Discover why thousands of sufferers are throwing away useless antacids and using simple natural remedies and alternative treatments of cure their gastro esophageal reflux disease (GERD). In this article, you will learn the first 10 things you need to know about treating GERD at home!

If your antacids are slowly becoming less and less effective, this article is for YOU!

10 Steps to Cure Acid Reflux

1. Educate yourself about your disease. Did you know that most reflux cases are caused by a damaged sphincter and esophagus? However, both of these tissues can be healed by certain foods.

2. Drinking water and only water is helpful for keeping your stomach sealed (no refluxed acid). Drink a glass after every meal to keep the stomach acid where it belongs.

3. You may also wish to loosen your clothes up for the time being. Tight clothes cause more attacks.

4. Boosting the head of your bed with slabs of wood will keep your reflux free for the whole night.

5. The lower esophageal sphincter is the muscle tissue that is responsible for keeping a seal on your stomach. It keeps the food and stomach acid in the stomach. Begin healing and restoring the tissue by drinking aloe vera juice. Aloe vera heals tissue.

6. Avoid all other beverages besides water. You should also avoid cigarette smoking because it will cause more damage to the tissue. Also stay away from spicy foods for a while.

7. Crunchy foods scratch the esophagus and sphincter causing more damage. Only eat soft foods for the time being.

8. An apple a day keeps the doctor away... and the acid reflux!

9. Make a fist and look at it! That is the size of your stomach and that is how much you should eat at each meal. You should eat 5-6 meals per day. You are a grazer!

10. Breath! Don't forget that stress can negatively affect every aspect of your health. Relax to boost circulation to speed up the healing process!
